Black Cumin is a very well-known plant because of its beneficial properties on the human body. Among other active constituents, timochinona is the primary element of Nigella Sativa seed oil.

Black cumin has had multiple beneficial effects for treating patients for various diseases such as inflammation, autoimmune diseases and metabolic syndrome. Also, other advantages of black cumin seeds are their antimicrobial and anti-epileptic properties.
Diabetes is characterized by an increase in blood glucose, which is a central factor in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which in turn determines cellular lesions and contributes to the development and progression of diabetic complications.
In a report by Heshmati, it has been demonstrated that although the administration of black cumin oil at 3 g/day for 12 weeks resulted in insignificant decreases in BMI, insulin levels and insulin resistance, and an increase in HDL -C patients with type 2 diabetes, however, it was observed that the levels of FBS, TG, LDL-C and HbA1c decreased significantly in the group of interference compared to the placebo group.
Another clinical trial showed that the intake of black cumin oil (equivalent to 0.7 g of seed oil) administered for 40 days resulted in a significant reduction in FBS and a significant increase in insulin in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2.
In another study, the addition of black cumin oil to 5 ml/day of atorvastatin at 10 mg/day and metformin at 1 g/day resulted in a significant decreases in TC, LDL-C and FBS levels after 6 weeks for use in patients with insulin resistance.
In addition, according to a study conducted by Hadi and other specialists in 43 patients with type 2 diabetes, after an 8-week treatment that consisted of the administration of black cumin oil extract at 1 g/day, C decreased serum levels of TG, LDL-C and TC significantly compared to placebo, and the ratio of LDL-C to HDL-C.
Furthermore, treatment with 5 g/day of black cumin tea, added to regular oral antidiabetic medications, diet and exercise for 6 months, resulted in significant decreases in FBG, PPBG and HbA1c in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
The side effects of black cumin were not severe for any studied person. For more studies of other conditions, go to the National Institutes of Health link.
It has been shown that the use of black cumin seeds and timoquinone, their active constituent, has many beneficial effects in various affections , such as inflammatory and autoimmune disorders, as well as diabetes.
In this study, other advantages of black cumin, for example its antimicrobial and anti-epileptic properties, have been analysed . We have found that the side effects of this herbal medicine have not been serious, on the contrary, most of its effects have proven to be beneficial.
Some properties of black cumin, such as hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic properties, are good enough in the kernels, so the seeds can be used for subsequent phases of clinical trials or for the development of supplements.
